YEREVAN, August 5. /ARKA/. Information security expert and co-founder of Cyberhub.am, Samvel Martirosyan, warned of a new wave of Telegram and WhatsApp account hacks, which may occur without user intervention.

"As you may recall, 7-8 months ago, WhatsApp accounts were hacked. Now we're seeing a new wave—WhatsApp and Telegram are being hacked. The problem is that, to a certain extent, people aren't to blame. In all likelihood, some hacker group is stealing recovery codes sent via SMS, without the users themselves receiving these messages," Martirosyan said in a Facebook video.

He believes this problem is related to critical infrastructure.

"Those who previously enabled two-factor authentication may experience a reset, after which their account can be restored," Martirosyan noted.
The expert reiterated his long-standing request to users: enable two-factor authentication in Telegram, WhatsApp, and even Viber to prevent account hacking.

"If you don't enable it, your account can be hacked regardless of your actions. If this happens, contact support," he noted.
