YEREVAN, December 16. /ARКА/. A memorandum of understanding aimed at ensuring children's online safety in Armenia and raising digital literacy levels was signed yesterday in Yerevan.

The document was signed by Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan, and Director of the Izmirlian Charitable Foundation Armen Chobanyan.

According to Hayrapetyan, the rapid development of technology, along with new opportunities, also creates serious risks. He emphasized the importance of the memorandum in terms of ensuring children's online safety, praising the importance of proper education in cyberliteracy, media literacy, and cyber hygiene.

Education Minister Andreasyan emphasized that cybersecurity is one of the most serious challenges facing the modern world, and only through collaboration can we ensure a more secure environment.

According to her, along with assessing the risks associated with technology, it is necessary to intelligently and purposefully integrate it into the educational system, as technological education and digital literacy are essential for modern people.

In turn, UNICEF Representative in Armenia Christine Weigand noted that digital technologies are an integral part of the daily lives of children and adolescents, simultaneously creating both new opportunities and new risks. She emphasized that ensuring children's online safety requires systemic collaboration aimed at creating a safe and secure digital environment.-0-
