Armenia's second supercomputer to be installed at Yerevan State University
YEREVAN, April 10. /ARKA/. A new supercomputer will be installed at Yerevan State University, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan said.
It will be the second supercomputer in Armenia, the first one was activated last summer in the Engineering City on the outskirts of Yerevan.
"The supercomputer has been in Armenia since December 26 last year. Currently, work is being done to set it up and legal issues are being resolved," Andreasyan said at a regular government session on Thursday.
The minister explained that it is not a replica of the supercomputer installed in the Engineering City, but a completely new device equipped with fundamentally different functional capabilities, which will allow performing calculations in a huge volume and working with a large amount of data.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that Yerevan State University, the Ministry of Education and the government should learn how to manage and work on the supercomputer.
“There is nothing shameful in this, because we have not had a supercomputer, just as we have not had a state for centuries, and the state is a more sophisticated supercomputer than the supercomputer itself,” the prime minister said.
Earlier it was reported that the second supercomputer in YSU will be assembled on the basis of components from the American company Nvidia and will be launched in the middle of 2025.-0-
